Tomorrow At this very moment, I'm contemplating my future; honestly, a few years ago I couldn't have ever guessed that I would be studying Mandarin. That doesn't mean that I'm not happy with my choices, on the contrary, they have led me onto a path which has given me the inspiration and motivation that I need. If anything, it feels like I have clear goal for the first time in my life. My enthusiasm in studying Chinese, led to a scholarship, so in August I will go to Shanghai to study Mandarin for two years, and I couldn't be more excited! Even though it will be an amazing opportunity, I'm still hesitant about my future. My academic record will time-wise be equal to a bachelor's degree, but consisting of 3.5 years of Mandarin and basically nothing else. It's unorthodox to say the least! Lately I've been thinking that maybe I could become a English teacher in China. It would make sense in many ways; although I'm Swedish, my English is sufficient, my Chinese could become close to fluent, and more importantly, I like to teach. My father is a teacher in high school, since I was young I have always admired his patience and wisdom, I would go as far as to say that I'm jealous of him. People say that wisdom comes with age, but I'm worried that I might be the exception to the rule. Had I inherited this trait of his, I wouldn't obsessively grind these thoughts and plans over and over, oh, the time I could save to do something constructive. This is my first notebook entry in English, I haven't used English for writing in this manner since high school, please be gentle! :D :D Thank you. // 瑞

Thank you Mohammed, just when I thought I could get no more nice comments and motivation from fellow "italketeers" like you. Do you think "italketeers" will stick, if I use it often enough? :D :D Again, thank you! // 瑞

Just read your entry and I'm pretty impressed by both your English and your enthusiasm for learning Chinese Mandarin. It's not an easy thing to throw yourself into a world you've yet to explore and you'll feel lost for a while until you know your way around. But given that you have the passion to do what you want to do, I'm sure you'll be able to cope just fine. I've also wanted to go to China for such an opportunity but as a full time Computer Science student, it isn't an option for me right now so I'm a little envious haha But aside from that, I wish you all the best with your trip and I'll also make sure I do my bit here to study hard thanks to your inspirational post. I have nothing else but to say, have fun in China. Study hard, play harder :)
