IELTS ESSAY 3 Title: Some people think that spending a lot on holding wedding parties, birthday parties and other celebrations is just a waste of money. Others, however, think that these are necessary for individuals and the society. Discuss both views and give your opinion. The necessity of spending a large amount of money on holding various parties has been a heated debate. Some people believe that such practice is a mere waste of money, while others think that it is beneficial for both the individuals and the society as a whole. I tend to agree with those who feel that it is unnecessary to spend a lot on holding parties. First of all, large expenditure on holding parties cannot bring people real interest. The primary reason lies in that such practice could only bring people instant satisfaction and pleasure, which would become blurred as time passes. Therefore, no substantial and tangible benefit would ensure, but pure indulgence in that short time at the expense of a large amount of money. Consequently, with so much money has been consumed, people may end up finding that they have insignificant achievement. On the other hand, other people who support such practice on the grounds that it is good for individual and the society. They argue that holing luxurious parties is an effective way for enhancing friendship and more importantly, can stimulate the domestic market. To be specific, it is inevitable that a wide range of items would be covered in holding parities, such as cakes, costumes, as well as accessories, to name but a few. The consumption of all these items helps increase the domestic demand. This might be justified to some extent. However, the non-biodegradable garbage and waster of resources caused during the process cannot be compensated by its little positive impact on stimulating market. Therefore, I strongly believe that spending a lot on holing parties is a waste of money, which should be discouraged.
