In my opinion, it would be better remembering the Japanese characters, Hiragana and Katakana first as we remembered alphabet when we started studying English.

Watashi nowa namae wa Courtnie desu. わたしのなまえはコートニーです。

Nan desu ka? なんですか。(What is ... ?) 

Itsu desu ka? いつですか。(When ... ?)

Gomennasai. ごめんなさい。(I'm sorry / Excuse me.) 

Mondai arimasen! もんだいありません / だいじょうぶです。(No problem.)

Ai kotoba! あいことば (= password / slogan / the word)

Aishite (i)masu. あいして(い)ます / だいすきです。(I love ... )

Arigatou~ ありがとう。(Thank you.)

Dochira desuka? どちらですか。(Which ... ?)

Sayouonara!~ さようなら。(Good by.)
