Different meaning.

怎么只有8点,我以为9点了呢!(It's only 8 o'clock? I thought it's 9! )

怎么8点了,我作业还没做完呢!(It's already 8 o'clock? I haven't done my homework! )

Same meaning.

怎么3个人,我还以为有很多呢!(It's only 3 people? I thought it will be many. )

怎么只有3个人,我还以为有很多呢!(It's only 3 people? I thought it will be many. )

My friend ,you have made a big mistake. you should not learn a single word when you learn another language. You should memorize sentence or phrase. It is just like your English, The same word has different meanings in different sentences. So you just copy what Chinese people say. It is useless that you know a single word, because you don't know how to use it ,which occasion you can use it.

One common way of using this single word is to reinforce the meaning of the sentence example : 1.我就是这样. '就'Here no specific meaning, kind of like the 'does' in the following sentence . It dose be what i am like this. 2.我就要死了. '就'here kind of like the tense of 'be going to' . I am going to die.

你想问的应该是做副词(adv)表示时间的时候 【就】说话的人认为某件事发生得很早,很快,容易 【才】……很晚,很慢,很难 比如: 我8点就起床了。(i feel it's early) 我8点才起床。(i feel it's late, may there is something have to do at 8:30?) 注意: “才”一般不和“了”一起用。 还有连接词 【只要……就……】once meet this condition you can get the result( so it's easy) 【只有……才……】you have to meet the condition then you can get the result( feels hard) 希望对你有帮助[emoji][emoji]
