The main point missed in the other comments is toss is usually much softer, often underhand and with an arched trajectory. Whereas throw is typically overhand and with more force and purposeful directionality .

Toss and throw= Actions not yet completed.
Tossed and thrown= past tense. Completed actions.
Yes, they can be used interchangeably but be careful about tenses.

"Toss" and "throw" can be used interchangeably in many contexts, especially when it comes to getting rid of something, but there are slight differences:
* "Throw away the garbage" is more commonly used and sounds natural.
* "Toss away the garbage" is also correct but is slightly more casual and might imply a lighter or more careless action.
Both are acceptable, but "throw away" is more commonly used.

"To throw (something) away" or "to toss (something) out" is to put "it in the garbage" or "in the trash." After that, you might "take out" the garbage or the trash.

Sometimes, yes, they can be used interchangeably. But not always.
Because a Toss is a type of Throw. For example, in BJJ or Judo you can do a Hip Toss which is a kind of hip throw.
But I might ask you to Toss a coin, but I won't ask you to Throw the coin. If I say Toss the coin, most people will assume I mean catch it also. If I say throw the coin, most people will ask: where to?
Toss also has a naughty meaning, so some people avoid this word, except in certain contexts. To call someone a tosser, is a big insult.
