Tutor da ComunidadeWhy Koreans Use Special Family Titles Instead of Names
In Korea, it’s very common to call family members by special titles instead of their names. This depends on the person’s age, gender, and relationship to you.
For example:
-Younger sisters call older brothers “oppa.”
-Younger brothers call older sisters “noona.”
-Older siblings are called “hyung” or “unni.”
Even cousins may have titles like “samchon” (uncle) or “imo” (aunt).
This system shows respect and closeness in families. It might seem complicated at first, but it’s a very important part of Korean culture.
What about your country? How do you address family members?
