What does " weather a storm" mean? How to use it in a sentence?

I think you already know the answer. If you can get your ship through a storm you say: "You weathered the storm."

It means to continue through difficult times until they're over. e.g. In times of financial recession, it might be better not to sell your shares. It might be better to just weather the storm.

'To weather a storm' can mean either a) to experience and survive an actual storm whether on a boat/ship or on land. ' We decided to stay in the house and weather the storm there.' or b) To experience and survive a difficult period, serious problems or great difficulties. 'John lost his job, but somehow his family weathered the storm.' ( you can also use 'to ride out a storm')
