What is the differnce between l'imparfait and passe compose?
When should I use l'imperfait and when should I use passe compose?

In French there are 2 verb tense to talk about the past (unlike in English). If you are a beginner, remember that passé composé is the most frenquently used because it's for action that are fully finished. Imparfait is more tricky, as it is used for talking about 2 things that happened at the same time, or a lost habbit or for style & drama in litterature.
If you want to say "I eat an apple", say "j'ai mangé une pomme" (passé composé).
If you say "je mangeais une pomme" I will wait for the follow up. I will want to know what's the rest of the story because for me it's odd to say it that way. Normal follow ups would be "je mangeais une pomme quand tu m'as téléphoné" (2 actions at the same time) or "je mangeais une pomme tout les matin avant d'aller à l'école" (lost habbit). "je mangeais une pomme" could work in a novel because we are used to have descriptions frozen in time that was, but it does not work well when speaking.

Hi! , Bonjour! Salut!
