Per = for each and every My car gets 30 miles (40 kilometers) per gallon (2 pints). (for each gallon, the car goes 30 miles.) (The car will go 40 kilometers for every 2 pints or 10 kilometers per pint) Here.. This will make more sense without the gallons and miles... Give a one balloon, plate, cup and fork per child. (this means each child gets one of each.)

hi, it can be used when expressing rates, prices or measurements to mean for each. like: The meal will cost $20 per person. The car was travelling at 70 miles per hour (70 mph). There are more cafés per square mile here than anywhere else in the country. also in these expressions: per annum, per capita, per se, as per instructions hope it helps. :)

The only one I can think of, is when people say, "as per usual!". I don't even know what, "per" means! I looked it up, it's Latin for "through, during". "Per day" - "Per hour" - "Miles per hour". http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/per

If a 120 miles trip takes three hours, you will travel with an average 40 miles/hours speed. 120miles/3hours=40 m/h or mph If you go to the cinema with three of your friends and the tickets cost £40 altogether, it will be £10/person. £40/4people=10 pounds/person or pounds per person If you earn £48 a day and work for 8 hours, you will earn £6/hour. £48/8hours=6 pounds/hour or pounds per hour If your salary is increased from £1000 to £1050, you will say it is inreased by 5%. £1000*0.05=£1050 after every one pound you get extra five pence or five per cent (cent=100 unit).
