anther question about oral English Does "coffee and pastry" means more than food, it means talk casually? I met this phrase in a tv show ,the sentence is "We could tell him about it over coffee and pastry." and "a morning chat over coffee and pastry" thx

No, the expression "coffee and pastry" does not imply conversation in and of itself. Of course, were one invited for "coffee and pastry", it would be assumed that people might chat.

It means they plan to meet the other person for a small meal (coffee, pastry are typically eaten in the morning) and discuss the issue. *I met this phrase in a tv show - should be ' I heard this phrase on a TV show'

I suppose that 'over coffee and pastry' means mealtime. Hope that helps!
