Complicated means it has many steps or parts, it is not easy to explain, etc. The opposite of complicated is simple.
Difficult means many people are unable to do it. The opposite of difficult is easy.
I'll give you some examples. It's not complicated to say, "I'm sorry," or "I love you." But for many people it is very difficult to say these things. Similarly, lifting a heavy weight is not complicated, but if you are not strong it is very difficult.
If you buy a table from IKEA, you have to assemble it at home. This can be complicated because there are many small pieces and the process has many steps. Some people will find this difficult and not be able to do it, but it will be easy for others.

If something is complicated it is hard to explain or do or it is complex
So say you were having problems and your friends asked you what was wrong you might say it is complicated because you think it is too complex to explain
Or you might say maths is complicated
difficult is like hard but stronger
to use:
complicated and difficult are both describing words so you just use it like you might say 'pretty' or 'cute' c:
It/that/this is complicated
I am/you are/they are complicated
this is difficult

You can use either one and people will understand what you mean.
Complicated is derived from the word complex which means it has many interconnected parts or concepts. A car or computer for example are very complex machines with many parts depending on each other. A long math equation with a lot of variables is also complex.
Something can be difficult without being complicated though. Trying to juggle 3 balls is difficult if you don't know how to do it, but it's not really complicated. Trying to say the alphabet backwards is difficult but it's not complicated.

This is a difficult question relating to a complicated matter;
complicated as a language can be;
difficult as you must figure out a precise boundary within two concepts that are usually meant as interchangeable; moreover you need experience of difficulties and complications, at least in theory.
As a challenge I prefer difficulties over complications, especially in
solving Math problems, I might now and then be able to solve a difficult problem but usually I make some mistakes in a complicated computation, so I have to revise every single step very carefully;
I would say that life is more complicated than difficult (at least on a statistical ground), obviously if extremal situations, like war don't show up.
