A strange ending of Chapter 2 / the Great Gatsby
Towards the end of the chapter 2, Nick left Mrs. Wilson's apartment with Mr. McKee.
While they went down the elevator, there was a little unpleasant exchange between the elevator boy and Mr. McKee.
Then the story abruptly cut to this following part:
[
… I was standing beside his bed and he was sitting up between
the sheets, clad in his underwear, with a great portfolio in his
hands.
“Beauty and the Beast … Loneliness … Old Grocery
Horse … Brook’n Bridge … .”
]
Is this part a dream sequence happened while he was waiting the train at Pen Station?
Is the man in the dream Mr. McKee? Why does he have to be naked?

Some people online are saying that is because Nick is gay.

I really don't think that is the case, what do you think?

NoAgenda,
There is no reason to conclude that Nick is gay.
Nick has been trying to leave the apartment but something keeps him there. Finally after the scene with the broken nose, he takes the chance to leave with the drunken Mr. McKee. Apparently, he puts the drunk fellow to bed out of kindness. Mr. McKee is a photographer and as he sits in bed he gives names to some of the photographs in his portfolio, which also seems to sum up the events of the evening for Nick (the narrator.)
Beauty and the Beast.....Daisy and Tom Buchanan?
Loneliness....
Old Grocery Horse......the dumb husband?
Brook'n Bridge....a pun referring to the Booklyn Bridge and the Broken Bridge of her nose.

I, too, would say there is no conclusive evidence either way, but I find the homosexual reading to be as likely as any. It certainly opens up a world of possibilities for interpreting the story.
Why the ellipse to start do you think?
