I was = yo estaba o yo estuve

Hi,
The main different between both verb tenses are similar as present perfect and past simple in English:
- Present perfect (I have been there/yo he estado allí): the action has been done recently, and maybe have still influence in the present.
- Past simple (I was there/yo estuve allí): the action has been done a time ago, it's completly finished.
I hope it helps you.
