Indonesian islands and race?
Does each inhabited island in Indonesia have a different race with a different mother tougue or are they all the same race but they speak different (native) languages? I know that Bahasa Indonesia is spoken on every inhabited island in Indonesia.

Good question. Yes, each inhabited island (Java, Madura, Bali, Lombok, Sumatra, Kalimantan/Borneo, Sulawesi/Celebes, Papua) has their own language, at least one, they possibly have more than one languages. Bahasa Indonesia is the lingua franca (I am not sure can I use this term in this case), Indonesian people who live in different island/place with different race can communicate each other with Bahasa Indonesia. Still, people who live in remote area sometimes can't speak Bahasa Indonesia. You will know that if you watch a tv programme that visit the remote island to expose their traditional way of living and culture.
About the race, yes we are very diverse in race. E.g in Java, there are Sundanese, Javanese and Maduranese (someone can add another race if you know more). also in Sumatra, we can find many races.

About race, Indonesia has 4 races: negroid(papua), weddoid(east Nusa tenggara, maluku), Proto Malay (dominant), deutro malay (some borneo and sulawesi). These races are spread now. you still can found some negroid race in java (majority in Papua). You know, most Indonesian are wanderer. They aren't stayed in a place forever. We can see at the wedding, it's rarely we found the marriage couples wore one traditional dresses. I think vernaculars depend on the tribes, not races. Java tribe speak Javanese, Sunda tribe speak sundanese, etc.

Yes, there various language and races in Indonesia but most of Indonesian (i can say 99%) do speak Bahasa Indonesia as lingua franca. So language isn't really a problem if you can speak Bahasa Indonesia.
