Questions about 八十八ヶ所巡
I've been getting my mind set on doing this pilgrimage for nearly a year now and the more I read about it the more questions pop up. In my country we do pilgrimage old fashioned way, this means sleeping in tent cleaning yourself and clothes in river and eating by fireplace.
This brings me to my first question- Is it legal in Japan to place a tent in forest or lets say on a meadow near road? Same thing for fireplaces, I know you can't start fire in forest in 90% of the world but in the meadow with all security measures? And last but not least will going to the river/lake and cleaning myself and my clothes with biodegradable soap cause any alarm and bring policeman to my side? This are one of the first questions that popped up but i have a lot more.
I want to say that I'm a Scout with 19 years of experience so I know what I'm doing and living away from civilization for 2 or 3 months and traveling by foot for 25 km a day is nothing unusual for me. I intend to get provisions from cities. Thanks in advance for responses.

That's plan looks like very nice.
Your plan almost correct legal but fire is illegality so police will heed you.
And be careful manner and polite behavior because very religious way.
八十八ヶ所巡 is populer and many people try it. Resent foreign tourist increasing so you can easy try perphaps.
And securty is don't care. Japan is very peaceful.
Actually I have never try it but I'd like try someday so I cheer you!
