The meaning of だいたい and すこし is totally different. And both are used in positive and negative sentences. すこし = a little, a bit, a few, slightly eg: I am a little hungry. I am not interested in it even a bit. だいたい = about, around eg: My height is about 180 cm. I don't think I can get there around 6 pm.

There is a clear difference between 「だいたい」and「すこし」. yes you are right that 「すこし」means a few, a little. or you could also say a small amount which means 「すこし」. 「だいたい」means about or approximately. Hope it helps ：P
