It is all the same language, but we have different accents and we also developed certain colloquial words that would not be understood from one country to the other. But when we speak with persons who speak Spanish from a different country we use standard Spanish and there is no problem to understand each other.

Although standard Spanish( el español normativo ) is understood in all Spanish-speaking nations, there can be very slight and minute differences in phonology, syntax, and grammar structure, but especially in colloquial expressions.

I don´t know what are your goals but if you want to sound like a Spaniard, Colombian, Mexican, Argentinian, etc. or like someone specifically (singer, actor, etc). It would be better that you get as many audio of that accent as you can, and try to mimic how they speak, how their rhythm is, etc. But if you only want to speak spanish (understand what others say and be understood) just try to practice with a native spanish speaker no matter what country he/she is. It is good because if that person speaks too fast you can ask him/her please speak slow, or please repeat what you said before. I think that there are more educational materials for learning spanish from Spain than from any other country. That's why many people who speak spanish as their second or third, etc, who aren´t living in a country where spanish is spoken, they have some traits that show that they learnt the spanish from Spain. For me it is better to choose a specific accent and practice a lot in order to get the flow of that accent. For example,I choose the accent from USA because I want to speak like an American but I can understand also the accent from UK.
