What does witty banter mean? Is this used nowadays? Where? (USA, UK, NZ)

it's still used in the US, often to describe TV shows like The Gilmore Girls and The IT Crowd.

Witty means clever and funny. Banter is talk between 2 or more people, that is usually lighthearted and trivial.
Yes, it is used here in NZ, but it may be a little old-fashioned.
