How many syllables
Hello everyone
To count syllables we have to check how many times do we hear "A, E, I, O, U" as a separate sound
My teacher said that there is 3 syllables in "Unable, corruption" and 4 in confrontation
In "Unable" I just hear two vowels , the first one "Un" and the seconde "a" ... I don't hear a vowel when I pronounce "ble" Bllll
same thing for corruption "cO" "rrUp" and "Schn" where is the third vowel sound ?
Can you please help me to distinguish between syllables ?
Thank you !

If you would like to see the vowel sound of the last syllable of the words 'unable' and 'corruption', you can look them up in the complete monolingual English dictionary with phonetic symbols. There is a phonetic symbol between b and l for 'unable' and also the same symbol between t /sh/ and n. It is /ə/ and sounds like the letter e in French.

An easy way to count syllables is to count how many times one's jaw drops as one speaks. For example, with the word Corruption, one's jaw drops three times: COR-RUP-TION, so corruption has three syllables. HELP has one syllable, Mississippi has four syllables: MISS-IS-SIP-PI.
Hope this helps!
