Both are OK? You spent half the day in bed. You slept half the day away.

They are both correct, but there are subtle differences. "You slept half the day away" is more negative because of the word "away". Also, note that "slept half the day" clearly means that the person was sleeping, while "spent half the day in bed" does not necessarily mean that the person was sleeping.
