I think your sentences are fine.  Just put a comma in the second sentence after the word "stupid:.

I wasn't sure about "tune up" in the context of bikes, so I went to the universe's major source of all information -- Google --, searched for "tune up a bike", and found 465,000 links to the use of "tune up" in connection with bikes.

in my opinion tune up is usually reserved for something with an engine.  the 2nd sentence is fine.
