- The police were given the information
- The information was given to the police
How can I recognize the objects in such sentence?

In the first sentence, the police is the subject, and the information is the direct object.
In the second sentence, the information is the subject, and the police is the indirect object.

Sorry I forget to write the active sentence. It is " Somebody gave the police the information"
