How do you say "Jigsaw puzzle" in Russian? I've tried to lookup "Jigsaw", and I get various translations none of which seem to match exactly i.e. if I put it in the google image search I don't get back pictures of jigsaws. Perhaps there is no defined word or phrase? For bonus points... :-) Are jigsaws popular in Russia, or would it be an obscure item? I would like to be able to make an analogy about not being able to transfer a piece from one jigsaw to another because it won't fit. The idea being that some thoughts or aspects of culture may not transfer to somewhere else very well because it only really makes sense inside the worldview or culture it came from. Would the jigsaw analogy work in Russian? I just can't piece this one together! (Sorry, for the awful joke but I just couldn't help myself)

In Russian, ''jigsaw puzzle'' is called just ''пазлы'': the word пазл (puzzle) refers only to this game, it's not any kind of a riddle or problem, so there is no need to add the second word to differentiate it from something else.

We call jigsaw puzzles "пазлы". https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CF%E0%E7%EB They are very popular in Russia. If you want to comlete a jigsaw puzzle, you have to assemble all its pieces. So, we can make an analogy with other cultures. If you want to understand any culture, you should understand all the aspects of it. Of course two sets of different jigsaw puzzles( two different cultures) have different pieces (aspects) and they can not fit. Hope I've answered your question.

Если я точно поняла, то вы говорите об игре "паззл", которая так и называется. Она достаточно популярна в России. Не думаю, что слово "Jigsaw" можно и нужно переводить. Это просто часть названия в английском варианте.
