Can someone check whether the sentence I've just made up correct, please? Here's what I want to say: "The robbers weren't smart enough to not to get caught by the police". Is that correct? Would you have said that somehow differently? Thank you for your attention! =)

The robbers weren't smart enough NOT TO get caught by the police :)

Or, this would be clearer: "The robbers weren't smart enough to avoid getting caught by the police." Well done though.
