Translation problem I got two problems here. They are both the sentances of a novel. 1. "Might as well get wasted, he thought, and rolled a small fat joint." What's the meaning of "rolled a small fat joint" in this sentance. 2. "Johan plunged the nettles into the cold stream and shook them. If anything had been on them, it had no chance in the fast moving stream. " Is that means if something bad on the nettles, they couldn't grow in the water?

A joint is a marijuana cigarette. He made his own cigarette, rolling up the contents in a cigarette paper. I didn't understand why anyone would wash nettles, so i looked for the whole story online. It seems Johan is washing off the nettles to be able to eat them. The force of the water will wash off any dirt.
