Why "poco a poco" instead of "poco por poco" to say little by little. A = to y por = by ?

Because sometimes you can´t translate word by word from one language to another, and get the same meaning. "Not only are there Spanish words that convey shades of meaning that don't exist in English, there are also Spanish words that can't be translated literally into their equivalent English meaning. ...
