2.grow, increase, rise (used with quantity or volume)

그 도시의 인구는 계속 늘어날 것이다 
  The city's population will continue to grow. 
  사망자 수가 100명 이상으로 늘어났다 
  The death toll has mounted to over one hundred.

늘어가다

1. go on increasing[growing, swelling], be on the increase(used with quantity)

시내에 건물이 자꾸 늘어간다 
  Buildings are mushrooming in the town.
  소비가 늘어간다 
  The consumption is swelling.

2. be in progress, develop, improve(used with talent,skill)

그의 음악 재능이 크게 늘어갔다 
  He developed much of a talent for music

늘어나다 #2 and 늘어가다 #1 has almost similar meaning.
But, 늘어나다 is more focused on the result and 늘어가다 is more focused on the progress.
