What is the difference (if any) between conjunctions "μα" and "αλλά"?

Hello, Nataly.
There is no actual difference as -like you already know- they both belong to the same group of conjunctions (είναι και οι δύο αντιθετικοί). But, as always, there is a but. And it has to do with these exceptional cases where one is more appropriate to use than the other. This is only learned through experience, but I'll do my best and will try to give you a few examples when "μα" is better to use than "αλλά" and vice versa.
"Μα πρώτη εγώ ήμουν που σου είπα ότι ήταν λάθος κίνηση."
"Μα, ναι, φυσικά και συμφωνώ;;;"
"Μα καλά, πώς σου ήρθε αυτό;"
"Μα είναι δυνατόν; Πού έχεις το νου σου;!" ή "Μα (καλά) πού έχεις το νου σου (επιτέλους);"
"Μα εννοείται πως θα έρθω! Μην έχεις καμία αμφιβολία επ' αυτού."
"Όχι, αυτό, αλλά ποιο;"
"Ναι μεν, αλλά...."
"Δεν βουτήξαμε ούτε μία, ούτε δύο, ούτε τρεις, αλλά τέσσερις φορές και το καταευχαριστηθήκαμε!!!"
"Εντάξει, όχι έτσι, αλλά πώς δηλαδή;"
