Any vs. Whatever
Hi. Could you please explain to me the difference between Any and Whatever?
Here two example sentences:
1. His brothers and sisters would eat whatever food they can find.
2. His brothers and sisters would eat any food they can find.
The difference between these words, as the adjectives, seems to me very subtle. However, I believe that the sentence with "any" gives an idea that there's a certain selection of food to choose from. And the sentence with "whatever" is kind of more general - there's no constrains such as a selection.
Thank you!

I'd say there's virtually no difference."Any" doesn't imply there's food to choose from, although "whatever" emphasises the scarcity of food more. The difference is very subtle.
