What's the meaning of "passive aggressive"? It seems to be a kind of description of personality. But I am not sure of its precise meaning.

Passive aggressive is a term used to describe people or behaviours that are not openly confrontational but are instead indirectly hostile. To illustrate: if Sam argues with Jess and instead of confronting her to her face, Sam posts a Facebook status saying something like "some people are just so stupid and immature" knowing that Jess will see it and know it's about her. Or people who leave notes in office work spaces saying things like "the microwave won't clean itself". Here is a great and funny collection of these kind of passive-agressive notes: http://www.passiveaggressivenotes.com

"Passive aggressive" means expressing aggression in a way that isn't direct and can't be proved. Here's an example. I once was chatting at work with a colleague, who was a tech support representative. He got a call while we were chatting. He took the call, spoke to the customer for a few moments, and said "let me put you on hold while I research that." He puts him on hold and continues our conversation. I said "uh... about the customer?" He says "Oh, I know the answer, but this guy is a real ******* and I'm just going to let him wait five minutes before I give it to him."

It sure would be nice if people wouldn't answer these questions so fast... and would give other people a chance to answer... but yeah, whatever, it's not a big deal. ^ That's me being passive aggressive about Anya's correct answer above! Haha!
