你们大学有六千多个学生。
校园里有几个食堂?
The sentenses above are from my textbook.I'm wondering why 里 is used in the second sentense although it isn't used in the first one.Is it also ok to use it in the first one?

it's ok with first one. 你们大学（里）有六千多个学生。

你们 大学 有 六千 多 个 学生。 = Your university has more than 6 thousand students.
校园 里 有 几 个 食堂? = How many canteens are there in the campus?
