Aren't primary school students required to memorize the multiplication table in your country? I'm amazed to hear that primary school students are not required to memorize the multiplication table in some countries like the US. Is that true? Two-grade pupils are required to be able to recite multiplication table 9×9 in China.

It depends on the school. My kids have had to learn their times tables, at least up to 10x10, in the 3rd grade.

It usually depends on the school, and can change.. However, many schools will continue to keep a multiplication chart on the wall just in case some student doesn't have it memorized. I have seen those charts throughout high schools as well (Sorry for answering it in the comment section before)

Usually students start around the 3rd year, but in some schools they do start earlier. They must memorize them and also record how they came up with their answer.

This varies from school to school in America. American schools have a wide range of education quality. Unfortunately, some schools do not put a great enough emphasis on strong math skills at a young age. For me, I was privelaged enough to be enrolled in an accelerated primary school program. I memorized multiplication tables at a very young age, similar to many chinese students.
