What should we use here, can't or mightn't ?
It's almost midnight. He _______ be coming now!
a. Can't
b. mightn't
I chose option 'b' as we can't say with 100% surety that the person will not come now, there is still a possibility. But the answer at source is 'a'. Could someone please explain this?
Thanks

Yes, the answer is A.
The whole point is because it is now so late, the person won't be coming. It's an assertion based on the previous piece of information that it is almost midnight (i.e. it is too late for anyone to come out now.)

As far as I know, "might not" cannot be contracted into "mightn't". And I would say, "It's almost midnight. He might (or may) not be coming".
