Each religion or culture has its own beliefs about this question. In my own culture, I have read accounts by people who have had "near death" experiences. They have said they were met by someone who loved them, such as their parents, and who had died previously. I myself believe this. But remember, it is only a belief. No one will be able to say for sure until they die.
