How do you begin learning a language? I see people on here talking about having a language partner and having basic conversations with them, and trying to practice the language... But how do you go about learning the very basic things? I know 안녕하세요 and 감사합니다, and I know the writing system but that's about it currently haha.

For me, I start by building basic vocabulary and learning simple phrases I can use or apply daily. So for example, learning how to say the names of various household objects or foods that I use / see regularly. Learning basic greetings, questions, directions, seasons, numbers, dates & time. I have a dog, he is trained using Korean commands. My grocery lists are written in Korean. I joined a few Korean social groups for various interests I have (like dogs. I've joined the facebook groups for his breed & the Korean registry he is registered with). One thing that helps me a lot also, is getting *childrens* learning materials in the language. I can sit and work my way through a child's story book, which gives a simple foundation in sentence structure and building efficiency & speed in reading in Hangul. As well as helps build simple vocabulary. There are also many language learning apps for both Apple & Android devices. And some simple games have a Korean language option, If you know how to play the game already, its simple to read and follow when you change the language from English to Korean. For example: Farmville, Tribes, Harvest Moon and such can be played in Korean.

I'm studying English, but you are studying Korean. 저는 영어를 공부하는데 한국어를 공부하시는 군요. Do your best. I hope you can be good at Korean. 열심히하세요.
