Could anyone tell me how to say "I work out/train myself in a gym" in Russian?

Also in Russia you can often hear colloquial slang expression: "Я хожу в качалку"

The most popular word for working out/training is заниматься. We rarely say Я тренируюсь в спортзале, because the verb тренироваться mostly means to try to do something, to train your skills. So, to say "I work out at the gym" you should say "Я занимаюсь в тренажёрном зале" :)

Я тренируюсь/занимаюсь в спортзале/спортивном зале.
If it is a place where you lift weights and do exercises, most people will call it 'тренажерный зал' or, more informally, 'качалка' or 'тренажерка'.
