Pakibigay mo ito. = Please give this. - “ito” is the direct object Pakibigyan mo ito. = Please give (something) to this. -“ito is the indirect object To illustrate – Situation: John, Mary, and Paul are siblings. Their ages are 10, 7, and 3, respectively. 1. John is giving a piece of chocolate to Paul through Mary: John: “Mary, PAKIBIGAY MO ITO kay Paul.” = Mary, please give this to Paul. - "ito" is the piece of chocolate. 2. John sees Mary opening a box of chocolates. John tells Mary to give some to Paul, who happens to be beside him: John: “Mary, PAKIBIGYAN MO ITO.” = Mary, please give some to this (gesturing at Paul). - John very informally refers to Paul as “ito”. Replacing “ito” with “si Paul” will make the statement "politically correct". :-)
