Is there a way to make Spanish accented characters on my English laptop?
I think the answer might already be in one of the discussion but I could not find a way to search this site. Thanks for any tips you have.

I use Windows 10. Thanks for your suggestions, I tried a couple of them. I also tried adding the touch keyboard which gives you many character options but was frustrating in that it caused me to type extra characters.
I like the US International Keyboard that Marcin suggested. I found it in settings/languages/English US then hold down the the options tab and add keyboard.
To type a character, press the left alt button at the same time, and presto...¿Dónde está el niño? Él está aquí.
Being from Canada, I did first try the Canadian Multilingual Standard keyboard, but it did not seem to work.
Cheers

Hello. I use 'United States (International)" keyboard layout in Windows. It has all accented characters available under the right Alt key (and also: ñ¿¡ with right Alt too). If you need more special characters they are available by pressing tilde or accent key and then the key you want... but I think using right Alt is more comfortable (and a lot quicker). Pehaps I find it easy because it is the way we use US keyboard in Poland, accessing our special characters (ąęśćń...) with right Alt using "Polish (programmers keyboard)" layout (US keyboards are much more popular in my country than old type Polish (typewriter) keyboards). I don't know what type of keyboard you use in Canada, but I think it should be US or compatible one.
I hope that helps :-)

Try this: http://sip.la.psu.edu/blp/tech-support/accents
Also, if you have windows, in settings you can add a language keyboard. This enables shortcuts for your selected language. Ex)
I added a swedish keyboard, so now my ":" key is ö.
