Type the words 'triple jump,' into google video search. Watch what a triple-jumper does - you will see him:
a) hop
then
b) skip
and finally
c) jump.
And this always happens in this order in the triple jump.

Interesting question!
A skip is a fun pattern of walking. It's faster than walking and takes more muscle strength. It's something kids can do together and laugh when they mess up the pattern. Here is a video tutorial of how to skip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCbZGQtnMvA
A hop is where you balance on one leg, hoist yourself into the air, and land on the same leg you started on.
A jump is like a hop, but you shift from one leg to another. So you balance on one leg, hoist yourself into the air, and land on the other leg.
"Hop" and "jump" are decently interchangeable nowadays. Most people wouldn't know the difference; I had to look it up! I would understand "hop" and "jump" to mean leaping into the air, either to cross a crevice or to catch something high above the head. "Hop" feels more cute and child-like, whereas I might use "jump" with adults or more serious situations.
Does that make sense?
