Include the context! You'll get better, more relevant answers if people know what you're asking about! Background: "We put the _____ in _____" is a fairly common phrase where the first blank is a part of the second word. It usually has a slightly funny/punny meaning, but it can be either a positive pun or a negative one. A positive example might be an art museum saying "We put the 'art' in 'party.'" (notice the word "art" is in the middle of the word pARTy) or a sandwich shop saying "We put the 'deli' in 'delicious.'" A more negative, sarcastic example is "They put the 'fun' in 'funeral.'" (because funerals are not supposed to be fun) or "That guy puts the 'hot' in 'psychotic.'" So, to your question - after last week's incident, there is a meme going around that says "Fly United Airlines! We put the 'hospital' in 'hospitality'!" Airlines are part of the "hospitality industry." Generally speaking, hospitality providers (airlines, hotels, etc) are not supposed to bring you anywhere near a hospital - but United's actions started a chain of events that put one of their customers (Mr. Dao) in the hospital with serious injuries. This is a joke based on that type of phrase, saying that United Airlines did treat not their customers correctly and that if you fly on United, you might end up in a hospital.

Hi Terry, I agree with Gary -- something doesn't make sense regarding the original sentence. "Hospitality" means a friendly service or services you provide to visitors such as guests, travellers and tourists. I have a gut feeling that the sentence should be "We bring hospitality to hospitals." The writer is trying to create an impression using two words of similar spelling or pronunciation. Hospitals are places we would think of when we need medical care, surgery or hospitalisation. They wouldn't normally be places where we feel welcomed. Perhaps the hospitals are trying to rebrand themselves to make their patients feel at ease, welcomed and happy during their stay there. We may even come across words such as "medical tourism" where wealthy patients may travel to another country or city for medical services and take a vacation simultaneously. Hope this helps. Cheers, Lance

We can't know without context. It is a play on words. It is likely to be a joke. For example, if a restaurant served bad food and many diners were poisoned, the hospitality was the cause of a visit to hospital.

Without knowing the context, it's hard to say. My guess would be that it's a joke. Hospitality is the industry of providing food, and perhaps lodging. So, if you put a hospital in there, something has gone very wrong. There's perhaps an implication that you are going to injure your customers, or give them food poisoning. Another less likely possibility would be that perhaps it relates to a cafe or restaurant that is located in a hospital. An even less likely option is that it might be some hospital themed restaurant.
