שלום!
אני לא כל כך מבינה את ההבדל בין הפועלים צריך והצטרך
אתם יכולים להסביר לי?
תודה רבה!

In the past we use להיות + צריך/צריכה/צריכים/צריכות
Examples:
הייתי צריך
היא הייתה צריכה
הם היו צריכים
In the present we simply use צריך/צריכה/צריכים/צריכות
אני צריך
היא צריכה
הם צריכים
In the future however we use להצטרך
אצטרך
תצטרך
יצטרכו
Very seldom you might hear אצטרך in the past, e.g. הצטרכתי, which sounds a little formal and may be compared with the English "I was required to ... [do something]". For example: הצטרכתי להגיע מוקדם. I was required to (I had to) arrive early. Since להצטרך belongs to the hitpael category of verbs, it gives a light sense of passiveness.
In the present however you will never hear להצטרך used, just like you will never hear צריך in the future or in the past. It's a very peculiar verb.

In the future I would say: אני אצטרך...
In the present I would say : אני צריך...
In the past I would say : אני הייתי צריך...
It's only easy to explain to those whose native language is Russian as Russian has similar words to צריך and הצטרך

מדובר בפועל אחד - להצטרך - ולא בשני פעלים. הצורות שהצגת בשאלה שלך מציגות שני בניינים של אותו הפועל. הדוגמאות הבאות יבהירו את המשמעות של כל אחד מהם:
אני צריך ללמוד. I need to learn
צריך ללמוד It is nessecary to learn
הוא הצטרך ללמוד Is something between - He had to learn - and - He should have learnt.
האם את מכירה את המונח "בניין"? Do you know what does the term Binyan mean?
