Stroke order when writing characters
I had my first lesson in Taiwanese and it was pretty good. There was a question I wish I would've asked my teacher but, when I had a chance to during the lesson, I didn't think of it. I also did a search on the internet but I'm not sure what to look for, to be honest, as I'm pretty new to the language.
When writing the characters, is there a way to determine what the proper stroke order is? I've been writing out some of the characters we went over but I'd like to develop the proper way of learning it now before cementing away the wrong way of doing it inside my head.Excellent! Thanks for the site. It looks like it should be quite helpful. :)** Scratch the "additional details" bit that starts with "Excellent!". I hit the wrong button when I submitted it and I don't see a way of removing it.

Here are some basic rules of Chinese character writing:
1. From top to bottom (從上到下) e.g. 二、全、古、早
2. From left to right (從左到右) e.g. 一、你、好、他
3. Horizontal before vertical (先橫後豎) e.g. 十、七、土、王
4. Diagonals right-to-left before diagonals left-to-right (先撇後捺) e.g. 八、又、大、父
5. Outside before inside (從外到内)
(1) Surround from Upper Left structure (左上包圍結構) e.g. 床、危、友、灰
(2) Surround from Upper Right structure (右上包圍結構) e.g. 力、可、包、乃
(3) Surround from Above structure (上包圍結構) e.g. 岡、風、問
6. Inside before outside (從内到外)
(1) Surround from Below structure (下包圍結構) e.g. 凶、齒、鼎
(2)Surround from Lower Left structure (左下包圍結構) e.g. 達、建
7. Inside before bottom enclosing (先裡面後封口) e.g. 因、日、田、回、四
8. Center verticals before outside "wings" (先中間後兩邊)
e.g. 小、水、來、永
9. Cutting strokes last (相交筆畫後寫) e.g. 中、干、羊
10. Left vertical before enclosing (先左豎後封口) e.g. 口、回、日、田、四
11. Top or upper-left dots first (點在上邊或左上先寫) e.g.
12. Inside or upper-right dots last (點在右上或裡面後寫) e.g. 瓦、玉、太、犬

if the Taiwanese character you were talking about is the traditional chinese then I think this might help, you can just type in any character then it will show you the right way to write it.
And FYI I am a Taiwanese

Thanks. I'll keep those rules in mind when I do more practice.

Taiwanese, usually the character strokes are written from left first depending if there is a side stroke of the character, then move to the right side of the written character, write from the top then finally bottom.
If the character contains a outer stroke such as 門, then you start writing the outer stroke first then write the inner characters.
