Lush carpet - for native English speakers While looking up the word "lush" I noticed the example "a lush carpet". I'm not quite sure what it means. Does it simply mean luxurious? Something similar to the one in this picture?: http://risalafurniture.ae/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/hotel-carpets-1024x6201.jpg Thanks for your help!

"Lush" in that context doesn't exactly mean luxurious. It refers more to a carpet that's very fluffy and soft, like one made from an animal pelt. I hope this is helpful! -Tom

Continuing what Tom has said above, it does seem to invoke an imagery of pleasing the immediate senses (not necessarily in the sense of luxurious). As you have already pointed out, a brightly-colored or an impressionable photograph or cinematography fits the bill. You might also consider a few other phrases to capture the nuance of the word in the following: "a lush, ripe strawberries" "a lush layer of green grass/glistening chrome" "a lush, full-figured woman" "a lush, creamy texture"
