What does "have shoes older than most of these people" mean? And if you're looking for funding, you are typically going to compete with some very young people from the high-tech industry, and it can be very discouraging and intimidating. I have shoes older than most of these people. Does "I have shoes older than most of these people " mean I am older than most of these people? Is there anything else in meaning? Thank you.

Heh, this person is saying that they are a lot older than many people in the high tech industry. The person probably does not literally have shoes that old, but he is sarcastically stating that he does. Imagine maybe he's 40, 50+ years old and the people he is competing with are 20+ years old. Maybe he has some 20 year old shoes, thus he has shoes older than his competition.

The shoe part is emphasis. As Jose says "a lot older", here meaning in a positive way, eg more experienced than the younger ones.
