Does "incorporation into" here means "connecting to" or "becoming a part of=taking part in"?
I now this text is a little bit scientific, but the meaning of the word "incorporation into" here is questioned.
However, 17O2 labeling studies carried out on the mammalian β-carotenoid 15,15′-oxygen- ase gave only 50 % incorporation of 17O into each of the two aldehyde products which was assumed as a monooxygenase mechanism.

Here, “incorporation into” appears to mean “becoming part of.” Literally, “incorporate” means to become part of the body of something or to become embodied. “Corp” is the Latin root word for body. Here, only half (50%) of one enzyme/catalyst/whatever became part of (incorporated into) each of the two aldehyde products.

First, shouldn't it be oxygenase? Second, incorporation of 170 is not clear as usually, it would be a substance and not a simple number (or does it mean 170 out of 1702?). Nevertheless, in this context, I would interpret it as becoming part of indicated by the preposition into. I hope this helps. Vera
