U.S. English would use "whip about" to describe moving quickly with sharp turns, possibly eventually returning, rather than making permanent progress forward.

To have a 'whip about' is usually attributed to asking multiple people for something. For example, 'I'll have a whip around and see how much money I can raise for Stephanie's present'.
