Что разница между следующими словами: пресловутный, бесчестный, печально известный и "тот самый"?
Я искала слово, что значит "лицо известен из-за его террор или ужасных действии" (перевод "infamous/notorious" на английском) и я нашла примеры с всем этих слов. Это, что одни из них более современные, или, что они имеют различные уровни тяжести? Кто-то могли бы объяснить мне, когда вообще каждое могло бы использоваться?

Good question. They are all widely used, but in different contexts.

1. Пресловутый = sth./smb. that has bad reputation; it can also mean "widely known" or "that has been discussed or mentioned many times before". In my view, this word is the closest to "notorious" and "infamous", because in most cases it implies unpleasant and ugly things or qualities. Even if you indicate with it something that is widely known, it still has more negative connotations ("something that has already made everyone get bored").

2. Бесчестный is definitely "dishonest, dishonorable" and is used about people in the first place.

3.  Печально известный = sth./smb. that has become famous because of some sad or tragic circumstances. I would say that as compared to "пресловутый", this expression has more "sad" connotations rather than disapproving.

4. Тот самый = that very, and it is not necessarily negative, it is just an indication to a thing/person that/who has been discussed before, whether good or bad.

В целом:
пресловутый -- (pejorative, often ironic/sarcastic, literary) widely and unfavorably known (about a person),  or generally talked of (about facts, cliches etc.); 
бесчестный -- (literary) dishonest, dishonorable
печально известный -- (literary or journalism) sadly known (as); usually used in negative contexts
