Катить, катать means "to roll".
Катиться, кататься means "to be rolling". Also in slang кататься means "to drive for fun, to make a ride".
Your text is very close to truth, but I think you should ask more exact questions about exact words and prefixes. Because there are many exclusions, which you should just remember.

creo que los prefijos verbales es algo más difícil de aprender a usarlo bien. Es que los mismos prefijos tienen las significaciónes diferentes con los verbos diferentes.

I want to calrify.
идти - it means "to go now or future" or "to go always, usualy".
ходить - it means more "to walk" then "to go".
ехать - to go now or future
ездить - to go always, usualy
бежать - to run now or future
бегать - to run always
плыть - to swim now
плавать - to swim usualy, like "i can swim" - "я умею плавать"
end etc.

At least, a couple of dozens of pages in a decent grammar book deal with the issue of Russian verbs of motion and their prefixes. Probably, you'd better use one of the textbooks.
