Meaning of "are you contradicting me private"?
I was watching Hacksaw Ridge and came across with that line where Vince Vaughn asking this question to a soldier. If I'm getting it correct, it means are you opposing me. What does "private" mean here?

Private is the word he is using to address the soldier. It is what some soldiers are called depending on their ranking. A Private is the lowest military ranking.
