Cindy 中文是=莘蒂 , If people ever really want to make fun of this name ... It would be 陰蒂(by Chinese pronunciation is a little similar to this name)<----Only very stupid people would make fun like this ... 陰蒂 is a small part of female's genital. Other than that , this name is perfect for a girl.

My Chinese is really basic, but I like your question. Hopefully my answer will be useful to you. First of all, the meanings of most names used in English are *not* known to the typical English speaker. A name is nice or not based on its sound, or use of the name by famous people. That being said, “Cindy” has, in my opinion, a very pretty etymology. Cindy was originally just a short form of “Cynthia”, but has been used on its own in American English for a long time. “Cynthia” is a reference to the ancient Greek goddess (of the hunt and of the moon) Artemis. If memory serves me, she was very beautiful, but famous for not being interested in relationships with the opposite sex. I’ve never met anyone named “Artemis”, but the Roman equivalent “Diana” / “Diane” is used in English and many European languages. (The name “Phoebe” — like on “Friends”, is also a reference to Artemis, as the moon goddess.) The entry in Etymonline gives a great summary of the etymology of “Cynthia”: “fem. proper name, also a poetic name of the Moon, from Latin Cynthia dea "the Cynthian goddess," epithet of Artemis/Diana, who is said to have been born on Mt. Cynthus (Greek Kynthos) on the isle of Delos.” Link: https://www.etymonline.com/search?q=cynthia
